(10) Miami
The Dolphins
surprisingly have a winning record, but you would’ve never guessed that after
watching they were blown out by the Ravens. And to make
matters worse, Jay Ajayi is out and on his way to Philadelphia. The Heat are still trying to regain their success of the Lebron-era by building around star center Hassan Whiteside but the Heat seem set for mediocrity yet again this season. Giancarlo Stanton is another promising player for the Marlins.
(9) Denver
The Broncos are
riding a three-game losing streak and are playing the best team in football
this upcoming week. The Nuggets are looking mediocre at the moment but it is
too early to tell how they will turn out come February.
(8) Chicago
Mitch Trubisky has
entered the building! The young quarterback has a way to go before teams will
start to fear him, but his first few games have not been as bad as some
expected. The Bears continue to rely on their underrated defense and strong run game. The
Bulls have a good chance at being the worst team in the NBA this year with a
record of 1-7 through their first 8 games. The Cubs won the 2016 World Series and made the playoffs again this year.
(7) Dallas
Mark Cuban’s Mavericks are through the first nine games of the NBA season and only have one win, falling behind teams like the Nets and Bulls. The Cowboys are sitting at second in the NFC East with a 4-3 record. With the loss of Ezekiel Elliot looming over this team all season, they have managed to stay focused. It's only a matter of time before the noise gets to them and they have to play without their star running back.
(6) Washington
D.C.
The Wizards always
seem to close making it to the finals but always come up short. The first seven
games they’ve played they seem to be a real threat in the East and could come out
with a one, two or three seed. The Redskins are sitting 3rd in the
NFC East and from the looks of it, that’s where they will remain. Injuries on the both sides of the ball are killing the
Skin. An underwhelming receiving core and poor run game have done nothing to help Cousins.
(5) San Francisco
The Bay Area may
be one of the coolest cities to live in America and AT&T Park is a great
place to watch a baseball game. Even though the Giants were tied with Tigers as
the worst team in baseball the scenery of the city makes it easier to accept
those 98 losses. The 49ers are almost as miserable as the Browns, if that even
seemed possible. The acquisition of Garoppolo seems to have given fans some hope. The Golden State Warriors are starting the season out with a
winning record, but many fans expected better from this basketball juggernaut early on.
(4) New York
All Rise! With arrival
of rookie sensation Aaron Judge in New York, Yankee fans all across the world
are excited for the future. Too bad baseball season is over and now New Yorkers
have to watch the injury riddled Giants and the surprisingly decent Jets finish out
their season. But hey, if the Jets defense danced on the field like they did
Thursday against the Bills every game, I personally wouldn’t care about the
outcome of the game. Kristaps Porzingis continues to be one of the only bright spots on a struggling Knicks team.
(3) Los Angeles
The Clippers are
standing on top of the West at the moment. With Blake Griffin and DeAndre
Jordan in the frontcourt and Patrick Beverley in the backcourt, this team seems
to have one of the better defenses in the league. The Lakers look to have a young star in Lonzo Ball. The Rams are tied with
Seahawks for the top spot in the NFC West. Todd Gurley and the Rams offense are
looking good through week 8, and should be able to keep rolling against the
Giants in week 9. The Chargers don't have the best record but with the rest of the AFC West not looking to great recently, never count veteran Philip Rivers out.
(2) Boston
Even with the loss
of Julian Edelman the Patriots are doing very well with Chris Hogan, Danny
Amendola and Brandon Cooks as their top three WR’s. Heading into the bye week
on a four-game win streak will allow the Patriots to rest up for their matchup
against the Broncos the following week. The Celtics are on top of the East with
a 6-2 record all without Gordon Hayward. Most of Boston’s success is coming
from unsuspecting players like Marcus Smart and Aaron Baynes who have done some of
the dirty work for the team while Kyrie Irving and rookie Jayson Tatum seem
to be firing on all cylinders on the offensive side of the ball. The Celtics
will be tested in their next game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
(1) Philadelphia
Philadelphia
claims the top spot as Best Overall Sports City for multiple reasons. The
Eagles are the best team in the NFL at the moment. With North Dakota’s
own Carson Wentz under center for the Birds, there seems to be no way of
stopping this offense. With GM Howie Roseman still moving some pieces around
and acquiring Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins, this already deadly Eagles offense
gains another strong RB. The Eagles look great on both sides of the ball. The Phillies seem to have a young star in Rhys Hoskins. The Sixers are
taking more steps in the right direction as they are now 4-4. It is the first
time since 2013 that the Sixers have been a .500 team. With a convincing win
against the Rockets the Sixers and their young studs are starting to turn some
heads in the NBA. Rookie Ben Simmons is almost averaging a triple-double each
night. Joel Embiid is still on minute restriction but is still putting up
respectable numbers. This seems like it’s going to be a good year for the city
of Brotherly Love.
